From the desk of the Director
It is indeed a privilege and honour to assume additional charge of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, as Director. We are doubly privileged here in Bihar to be geographically close to one of the earliest universities in the world – Nalanda, and to be guided and led by the spirits of our ancestors who lived their lives in scholarly pursuit. AIIMS Patna was one of the Institutions of National Importance (INI) to be established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana scheme to create health infrastructure, hubs of excellence in medical education, and hospitals to provide quality tertiary healthcare to people of various regions.
I am delighted to lead a band of dedicated faculty who are giving their best to treat all patients who come to AIIMS Patna for treatment, managing a plethora of conditions ranging from simple viral fevers to implanting cochlear implants for deafness. The students of this institute have shown their prowess not just in the classroom but also in other creative activities bringing accolades to their alma mater.
In the next few weeks, I shall review in detail what is already in place in AIIMS Patna, prepare a SWOC (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges) analysis to guide administrative decisions and work with staff, students, faculty and the administration to address issues that are the felt needs of the stakeholders. Assessment of the medical and nursing curricula to include newer methods of teaching-learning, opening new hospital services and more hospital beds to benefit the people of this state and surrounding regions, conducting faculty development programmes and staff training programmes to support faculty and staff and completion of the projects that are already initiated will be on the top of my agenda for this institute.
I have no doubt that with the support of all stakeholders we shall be able to build on the strengths of this institution and take it to the next higher level.
Director, AIIMS Patna
